What Are Storage Auctions?
Storage auctions are a way for you to bid on goods left by tenants who have either abandoned their unit or failed to pay their rent. A storage unit must be at least three months late before it is eligible for an auction. We usually do auctions twice a year.
Auctions give you a chance to win goods at a bargain, while helping us by freeing units up again for rent. Units usually go for a fraction of what is owed, but if the winning bid exceeds the amount owed, the remainder goes to the former tenant of the unit.
How Do I Participate?
Keep an eye out for our email if you sign up. We also post auction events on our Facebook Page, on posters around town, as well as in the local Telegraph newspaper.
On the day of the event, we will go around to all three locations in this order: Affordable, Buffalo Bill, and Philip Avenue. Starting times will be included in our event postings. We recommend arriving 5-10 minutes early to register for bidding.
At each location, we will go to each unit, not always in the order listed on the event postings. At this point, we have already cut the previous lock, photo-documented the unit from the outside, and applied our own lock, so we will just remove our lock from each unit. Everyone participating gets a chance to look in from the outside. Entering the units, or touching or moving items is not allowed.
Local auctioneers will start the bidding. Good luck!
If you win, you must settle with the auctioneers, and then you have 24 hours to completely empty and sweep the unit, so it is ready for the next tenant. You may also rent the unit if you need more time. If you win a unit at a gated location, please make sure you obtain a guest keycode before you leave.
